• 谢尔曼ISD炎热天气政策

Practice or competition in hot and humid environmental conditions poses special problems for student-athletes. Heat stress and resulting heat illness is a primary concern in these conditions. Although deaths from heat illness are rare, constant surveillance and education are necessary to prevent heat-related problems.

谢尔曼ISD教练, UIL sponsors and students will follow special procedures to ensure students maintain proper hydration and body temperature levels during extracurricular 实践s in extreme heat. The following 实践s should be observed.

    降低风险的考虑

All UIL sponsors with 谢尔曼ISD will adhere to the following 实践s:

    • Encourage proper education regarding heat illness (for athletes, 老师, 教练, 父母, 医务人员, 等.) Education about risk factors should focus on hydration needs, 适应环境, 工作/休息比, signs and symptoms of exertional heat illnesses, 治疗, 膳食补充剂, 营养问题, 健康状况.
    • Assure that onsite 医务人员 has authority to alter 工作/休息比s, 实践计划, 设备数量, and withdrawal of individuals from participation based on environment and/or student’s medical condition.

    一般的指导方针

    • All SISD UIL participants need an initial complete medical history and physical exam on file with UIL sponsor.
    • Gradual 适应环境 of the student to hot/humid conditions is a must. We advise students should gradually increase exposure to hot and/or humid environmental conditions over a period of seven to ten days to achieve 适应环境.
    • During the 适应环境 period, students need to have their weight loss monitored. Athletes must weigh-in before 实践 and weigh-out after 实践. Readings should be recorded for 教练 and/or athletic trainers to evaluate. Athletes that lose 2% or more of their body weight during 实践 must regain ALL of the lost weight in order to participate in the next scheduled 实践.
    • Clothing and protective gear can increase heat stress. 深色吸收太阳辐射. Clothing and protective gear interfere with the evaporation of sweat and other avenues of heat loss. 在适应过程中, a student should 实践 in T-shirts, 短裤, 袜子, and shoes (helmets are allowed in football).
    • The district retains an open water policy – with students allowed water at all times – for the entirety of all 实践 sessions, 不管活动是什么.
    • To identify heat stress conditions, measurements of environmental conditions will be taken daily. 在练习时, 在练习场上, 谢尔曼ISD athletic trainers will use a thermal indicator to monitor the WBGT and the actual temperature. 如果这样的设备不存在, the Perry Weather monitoring system will be used to maintain consistency. All campuses will follow the guidelines set forth in this document.
    • WBGT or actual temperature at the start of 实践 determines the policy for that 实践. Practices will be shortened due to a rise in the WBGT or actual temperature.

    具体的指导

For all outdoor extracurricular activities, 谢尔曼ISD will follow the UIL guidelines on Heat Stress and Athletic Participation. More information can be found on the UIL网站.

Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) Index

    • 82岁以下.0
      • Normal Activities - Provide at least three separate rest breaks each hour with a minimum duration of 3 min each during the 锻炼
    • 82.0 - 86.9
      • Use discretion for intense or prolonged exercise; Provide at least three separate rest breaks each hour with a minimum duration of 4 min each during the 锻炼.
    • 87.0 - 90.0
      • 最长练习时间为2小时; 足球: players are restricted to helmet, shoulder pads, and 短裤 during 实践. If the WBGT rises to this level during 实践, players may continue to work out wearing football pants without changing to 短裤. 所有运动: Provide at least four separate rest breaks each hour with a minimum duration of 4 min each.
    • 90.1 - 92.0
      • 最长练习时间为1小时. 足球: No protective equipment may be worn during 实践, and there may be no conditioning activities. 所有运动: There must be 20 min of rest breaks distributed throughout the hour of 实践.

Rapid cooling zones must be available for each outdoor athletic and marching band contest, 实践, 锻炼, or conditioning session that is held in wet bulb globe temperatures of 80 degrees or higher. Rapid cooling zones are required to have immediate availability of cold-water immersion tubs or tarps that can be filled with ice and water and wrapped around individuals to rapidly cool internal body temperature (TACO method) and are encouraged to include a combination of the following options: ice sponges, 毛巾, 水的水, 和影. The presence of an employee or volunteer trained to administer cold-water immersion is recommended.
